Bizarre erotica that at first glance disgusts and repels but like a train wreck you find you cannot look away! It's the type of film you secretly enjoy but fear vocalizing it aloud for fear you'll be labeled a pervert! I couldn't care less about such labels so I'll admit I was taken aback by its appeal! Recommended: for the more adventurous spirits among us!
FYI: I bought the dvd online and the subtitles stopped being in sync after a short time, so I suggest choosing English under the language option otherwise you won't know what the heck is going on! Opening with one of the most alarming horse cocks I've ever seen, this film is gleefully obscene. I declared it uncomfortably delightful while watching it.
Feb 16, 2005 - No, I'm not kidding. Your brave reviewer has Taken One For The Team on this one--I watched this crap so you wouldn't have to. Apr 3, 2015 - Obscure Pleasures: The Films of Walerian Borowczyk. Walerian Borowczyk; 1975; France; French with English subtitles; DCP; 104 minutes.
There might be some sociopolitical allegory or intelligent themes underneath its spectacle, that is to say, somewhere in the shadow of the eternally erect beast penis that spews infinite semen, but who cares? Constructed out of fragments and reveling in close ups of any and all genitalia (including a horse's wet vagina), this film is just an excuse for transgression, and I found myself comparing it mentally to Nekromantik in that it's the sort of film that makes this sort of filth absurd. Audaciously lascivious, Walerian Borowczyk's 'The Beast' is a strange blend of eroticism and severely questionable taste that straddles the line between embarrassingly watchable and patently offensive for its entire running time. A lurid tale of beastly lust and contemporary social strategy, the drama shocks, titillates, amuses, and may even sicken. It is a strange mix. Revolving around a household attempting to marry-off a past-his-prime son, 'The Beast' follows as two stories intertwine.
First is the tale of the son, his father, his betrothed, and other assorted characters engaged in hiding a secret and cleansing the family name. The second, a long-winded flashback, is the story of why the name needs cleansing. While the film's tawdry secrets will not be revealed. Sorry pervs but big beast cock only makes up about 1015 mins of total screentime. It's surprisingly hard work to sit through the scheming bourgeoisie shenanigans which make up the rest of this and i nodded off twice, but the payoff is. Maybe worth it. The harpsichord is great and the viscosity of all the jizz looks pretty authentic!
I don't know enough about borowczyk to make any conclusions about this being anything more than boundary breaking shock, but i did dry heave at one point so if he wants to show a sheer visceral effect of degradation of man and morality then it did its intended job. Maybe he just wanted to film cummy socks with some bourgeoisie tag-on content so he could get it screened at film fests.
1975 Watched on Arrow Video blu-ray. Tons of extras on this disc! Ok, that opening scene totally the tone of this movie! Not really shocking if you've watched the Discovery Channel or Silicon Valley, but horse porn is always going to be weird as fuck. The really weird shit here was the zooming in on horse pussy.
Anyway, this movie wasn't really that shocking, but it's definitely bizarre and weird as fuck, though funny. Definitely the most Arrow Video-est movie of the Arrow Video movies I've seen. Watched this for the first time today and was very pleasantly surprised at how even with the X-Rating it was easy less pornographic than expected. I expected a lot more with a rating like that. The majority of the story is a classic Gothic horror about a crumbling aristocratic family that is trying to at stay relevant by marrying their son off to this girl who is extremely attracted to beasts.
Said girl runs around this estate in a sheer gown that you can see through being chased by a creature. Classic Gothic material except this one has some pretty explicit scenes. There's a lot of sexual tension being ramped up bit by bit as the movie goes on.
