Pre-war German Mauser.22 caliber training rifle, with Zeiss optics on Akah scope mount. Mauser logo on right side of butt-stock. Receiver marked on left side 'MAUSER-WERKE A G OBERNDORF' Left side of barrel marked 'PATRONE 22 LONG RIFLE' with serial number and nitro proof. Scope marked with 'Carl Zeiss Jena' logo, and 'Zielklein'.
7/3/18 - This is an original.22 Caliber Mauser training rifle. These were made to train troops in bolt action rifles / shooting accuracy before WW2. The rifle is proof stamped with crown/B and crown/U inspector proofs.
The receiver is Mauser banner proofed. The underside of the barrel is stamped 'Ch51' and 'S', and I'm unsure what these proofs mean. The right side of the barrel base (near the receiver) is 'D.R.P.'
And 'D.R.G.M.' The barrel has some light patina/surface browning in spotty areas throughout - we try to depict this as accurately as possible in photos. The overall bluing is excellent though - we'd rate at about 91-92%. The wood is in excellent, all original condition with a faint Mauser stamp on the right side of the stock.
The butt plate is also Mauser banner stamped. The bore has very strong rifling, with some minor residue and overall rates about 8-9/10. Guaranteed all original and authentic.
Make: Waffenstadi Guhl Roechlingstahl Model: K98, Deutsches Sportmodell 1935 /.22 Training Rifle Year of Manufacture: 1930's, this gun is C&R eligible Caliber:.22 LR, 5.4mm Action Type: Bolt Action Serial Number: 10112 Markings: The barrel is marked “Deutsches Sportmodell / Roechlingstahl / 5.4mm / 10112 / ZAK? There are two proof marks on the barrel above the serial number. One is a crown over “B”, the other is a crown over a “U”. The receiver is marked “1935 Waffenstadi Guhl' with a shield coat of arms. On the left side of the receiver at the barrel is found the same two proof marks and the serial number. The left side of the stock washer is marked “ SOLD.BD.' The underside of the bolt handle is marked '1157'.
Barrel Length: 26' Sights: The front sight is a barrel band attached ramp with a blade in a dovetail slot. The rear sight is barrel mounted adjustable sight with a sliding elevator. Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock closely resembles the K98, semi pistol grip with right side sling hook and rack device. The stock is in generally good condition but with some dings and gouges, there is a surface depression on the left side of the stock below the rear sight and what looks like vice marks there as well. There is some surface damage likely from poor storage in racks above the trigger on the left side. It appears to be multiple dings from the bolt of the rifle to its left in a rack. The stocks are original finish and have not been sanded.
Type of Finish: High Gloss Blue Finish Originality: We believe this is the factory original finish. Overall Condition: Approximately 90% of the metal finish is retained.
The blue areas are unusually good and show only a few minor handling marks. Ther eis no evidence of metal prep or wear under the finish that would indicate a refinish. Our consignor filled the lettering with white paint and this can be easily removed but was left for the sake of taking pictures. In general this gun shows little wear. The markings are clear and all visible.
The shortened rod is present, but cannot be removed. This is a beautiful Mauser Training rifle. Bore Condition: The bore is bright and clean with sharp rifling Mechanics: The action functions correctly Box: There is no box. Our Assessment: A great chance to obtain an important Pre - World War II German collectable that is difficult to improve on. This gun is considered to be very accurate and of course shows off its fine German workmanship. It is in remarkably good condition. A serious collector will be happy to own this rifle.
